International Learning Opportunities

There are several opportunities for students to increase their global competence. This can be done by creating pen pal friendships, collaborating on projects, and studying abroad. There are also several international learning opportunities for teachers.

E-Learning Opportunities

Peace Corp World Wise Schools is a program that links schools with Peace Corp volunteers around the world. The students and volunteers become pen pals. Volunteers share their international experiences with students around country. This is an excellent way for kids to electronically trek around the world.

Skype in the Classroom allows students and teachers to interface with learning communities around the world. Students from diverse international communities may simultaneously work on several activities and projects. This platform also gives teachers opportunities to collaborate and develop lesson plans.

Participating in online activities is an excellent way to help students increase their knowledge about places around the world. Global Trek: Virtual Travel Around the World implements guided questions to help students journal about web-based international exploration.

World Savvy exposes students to project-based learning. Their approach helps them facilitate their learning within the context of the global competence framework. The organization also sponsors a global education certificate program for educators.

iearn is the hub for international student collaboration. The organization serves as a platform for global learning communities to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Teachers may join the organization as individuals or as part of their school communities.

People to People International is an ideal platform for connecting students with classrooms around the world through emails. Students may also use their email connections to collaborate on various projects and activities.

Study Abroad and Exchange Programs

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad is a merit-based program that gives high school students an opportunity to study abroad for a school year.

For high school students interested in learning more about less commonly studied foreign languages, the National Security Language Initiative for Youth is an ideal program. Program participants study abroad in countries where the languages are widely spoken.

Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Short -Term Program selects educators to travel abroad and impart their expertise in certain areas.

Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Programs gives teachers an opportunity to study the global competence framework by participating in an online course. Teachers implement their learning by traveling abroad and exploring aspects education in selected countries.
